About TGD
TGD is funded by a grant from the National
Institutes of Health (NIH) as part of the Tetrahymena Genome
Sequencing Project, a collaboration between The Institute
of Genomic Research (TIGR), The
University of California at Santa Barbara (UCSB), and Stanford University. The abstract
and other details of this grant are available at the Computer
Retrieval of Information on Scientific Projects (CRISP) website. TIGR has recently sequenced the
Tetrahymena thermophila macronuclear genome, and has begun comprehensive
annotation and analysis of the data. One of TGD's goals will be to
facilitate the use of the genomic data by current ciliate researchers,
and to assist those researchers from outside the field who become
interested in Tetrahymena. TGD is in the initial stage of development,
but it will be a web-accessible database for the genomic sequence
information determined at TIGR, plus information on the genome, genes,
and proteins of Tetrahymena collected from the scientific literature,
research community and many other sources.
TGD is based at Stanford University in
the Department of Genetics and is
headed by Mike Cherry, the principal investigator (PI) for the Saccharomyces Genome Database (SGD)
and a co-PI
of the Gene Ontology
Consortium.
TGD will be developed using the
software and database environment created by the SGD project. TGD currently contains
some Tetrahymena and ciliate-related information, but in time will
provide a collection of resources and hyperlinks similar in depth and
quality to that of SGD.
TGD is intended to be a resource for the research community. Thus, as
we develop TGD, we would greatly appreciate input from the research
community so that we can better tailor TGD to meet its needs.
Please feel free to send comments, suggestions, or questions to TGD at
